This bias is attributed to a\u00a0<a title=\"Metacognition\" href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Metacognition\">metacognitive<\/a>\u00a0inability of the unskilled to recognize their mistakes.<sup id=\"cite_ref-morris_1-0\"><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/Dunning%E2%80%93Kruger_effect#cite_note-morris-1\">[1]<\/a><\/sup><\/p>\n<p>Actual competence may weaken self-confidence, as competent individuals may falsely assume that others have an equivalent understanding.
